There used to be the checkbox option to ” Don’t override Themes and plugin filters” on the widget Excerpt settings. The plugin is overriding our theme’s excerpt settings and would like to have a way to disable your plugin from doing so.

It’s possible with the pro version and the Excerpt Extension add-on https://wordpress.org/plugins/excerpt-extension/

You can try the pro for free and the add-on at a localhost WordPress installation

Not a fan of that, as this was included in the free version for several years, not you have decided to only make that option available in the paid pro version?

For us that is nothing for our stable core code here.
To many setting options that’s why we put it out.

I honestly have no clue what your reply means, but either way, I just reverted back to version 4.8.5.

With the current and the next version we will get rid of that excerpt filter hooks: length and read_more and support only the CSS attribute line-clamp with lines (responsive).

Then you could try it again

With your request there are two requests about that filters. And all want a special custom feature.
You also have to understand us.
