I have full root access to a virtual server. Windows 2008 running IIS7. I installed WordPress through the Web Platform Installer and got a site up and running, I can change themes and do upgrades. I doesn’t ask me for any FTP details when I do.

I tried to install a second WordPress instance, different domain. This is running ok. When I try to install a different theme (using the wp-admin pages) it asks for FTP details.

I am assuming that the first (web platform installer) install set up an FTP server.

How can I find the login details?

No, it’s asking for ftp details as a fall back because the folders have different ownership. You’ll have to fiddle with the owners on those folders.

    Spot on!

I compared permissions on the root folders of the working and problem site and they looked the same. Then I compared the wp-content folders of both and found that on the working one, the IUSR account has modify permissions.

When I added this permission to the problem site, everything works ok!

    Thanks Andrea.
