[resolved] Donate button - a little naughty (5 posts)

Check the conditions for using a "Donate" button with Paypal. It violates their terms (assuming you are not raising money for a non-profit organisation) and you could end up having your PayPal account locked.

Instead, set up a product without a price, and don't call it "Donate".

I just googled the web and found here has good explanation:

Thanks Jason for mentioning it and thanks the author for this useful plugin.

    I see...

Some of the most-respected devs use the donate button because it is the only one that lets you enter your own amount.

However, I hate PP so much, I'm adding a Stripe form to https://www.petersenmediagroup.com/contribute and am just waiting for my host to apply my SSL to that URL. It should be done Monday.

Yep - it is used a lot, and it was only setting one up for myself that I spotted the small print and did a bit of searching on what it means (and the potential consequences if you go ahead and use it anyway). It surprised me, and just wanted to spread the word.

I have found that you can set up a simple "item" for sale and leave the price blank. People can still fill in the price they want, even if it is not a donation.

This has officially been resolved. I haven't placed my new link back into the dashboard, but it has a new link here in the sidebar of the plugin area.
