• Hi
I have set my wordpress site up with a provider with domain name wp.example.co.uk.

However I also have my own domain name that I use for mail etc http://www.name.net

I use easydns and I can set up forwarding so that when you enter http://www.name.net it takes you to wp.example.co.uk. When I do this the original URL is also masked which is great.

However all the mail and info that is sent out from WP uses the original domain name – I want to change this.

I can see in the options section obvious things to chnage however I am not technical and dont want to break it.

What are the minimum steps I need to have wordpress think it is http://www.name.net ?

    Thanks

  • can’t you set your site domain do name.net and wordpress blog-url to wp.example.com ?
I believe one is the URL you’ll see in your browser, the other is so that wordpress knows where it is.

    NO!
You can not change those URIs to “fantasy values” without breaking the blog!

Hi – so is it not possible to do this?

    Do what?

Forwarding. That’s your problem. You rarely, if ever, want to use domain forwarding.

You own the name.net domain, right? So why not get hosting for that domain and host your site actually *on* that domain instead of relying on some kind of wacky forwarding?

The short answer here is no, you cannot do it the way you want, with forwarding. Even if you could fool WordPress into using that domain (not hard, actually), virtually every mail server in the world would probably reject your email as spam, since you’re spoofing email addresses at that point.

Hi – yes I do own the domain name. The problem is I use easydns to enable me to do certain things that depend on the easydns name servers being used.

I didn’t say you could not use easydns. Use any DNS you like.

Just don’t use “domain forwarding”. Get a real hosting service and point the domain name at that host.
