Support » Installing WordPress » Domain confusing

  • Here are the details:
I currently have the domain name “speakupforamerica.com” registered and have been redirecting it to http://speakupforamerica.blogspot.com

A business associate suggested I start using WordPress and suggested I use HostGator.com to host the site. He suggested that I use Fantastico to install WordPress.

In the install process, Fantastico asked me what my domain name is and I enter “speakupforamerica.com”. (Obviously, my domain name is still being forwarded to speakupforamerica.blogspot.com)

I have a HostGator hosting site, which lists “Your Domain: speakupforamerica.com”

I’m totally confused! So far, after “installing” WordPress, using Fantastico, noting seems to have changed.

Any insight into this will be appreciated

You need to update your domain’s DNS records to point to HostGator’s nameservers, which are listed in your HostGator welcome email.

How you do this depends entirely on your domain registrar. If you need further assistance, I recommend contacting them.

Thanks, I’ll work on the DNS nameservers in the morning.

Next question: (Using Fantastico) During installation, it asks:

    Installation location
Install on domain (I put “speakupforamerica.com”)
Install in directory (I leave blank)

    Correct?

    Thanks for the fast help.

Yes, that’s correct. Once you have the DNS records correct (which could take up to 48 hours to propagate to all ISPs), your blog will be at speakupforamerica.com
