  • Second problem: when the option “Enable the XML sitemaps that Yoast SEO generates.” is switched off, anyway the sitemap_index.xml is available (including all sub-xmls).

The Yoast SEO plugin will only generate a sitemap for the domain on which the WordPress installation exists. It is not capable of generating sitemaps for additional domains that were configured using another plugin.

If you would like to submit a feature request, we’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository where you can create a new feature request for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You can create a new issue to submit your feature request. You will need an account to create one.

    Hello,
the structure can be generated but not including the domain name. So when the file is viewed trough domain somedomain.com, the full URLs will be created using this domain name. That way works another plugin from the WP’s repository.

Could you please address the second problem which seems like a bug:
when the option “Enable the XML sitemaps that Yoast SEO generates.” is switched off, anyway the sitemap_index.xml is available (including all sub-xmls).

Disabling the sitemap option from Yoast SEO > Dashboard > Features (tab) won’t show you the sitemap index anymore. However, if you’re seeing the sitemap index even when the sitemap option is disabled, please make sure that you cleared all the caches from your site include any CDN cache (if you have).
