I have tried Mailgun in API mode and using ‘network method’ in Mailpoet’s Send WIth setting… the test mail shows up in server phpmail log but never arrives, whilst other emails eg site contact go via mailgun quite happily.

Then send with 3rd party again MailGun smtp tests fine in mailgun but fails to connect via MailPoet ‘smtp connect fails’ tried the MailGun recommendations smtp.mailgun.org and port 587 but still fails.

I guess Mailpoet doesn’t work with Mailgun. Unless you can give me some further tips?

  • There’s nothing on MailPoet’s code blocking access to MailGun’s SMTP servers. Try with MailPoet 3 instead: https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailpoet/

For the time being I’m ok with MailPoet phpmail, which does not seem to go via mailgun (though separate contact form does) Which is why I said it seems to bypass Mailgun whose plugin takes all other mail options.

I may yet come to try MailPoet 3

My bad… It was my setting up of authorised recipients in MailGun that solved the sending issue.
