This used to work great. However now due to Facebooks new rules you can’t just use your facebook group ID in order to get a group feed to work. Also the instructions this company provides are ages old. They are not updated to show how to go about getting your API key from facebook. They really need to get their stuff together and update their instructions and figure this out. I know Facebook has made changes but its up to each company to keep up with those changes. I think the current instructions on how to obtain the API key are at least 2 years old. Please update, please help. Also… this plugin used to allow WAY WAY WAY WAY more customization options in the free version. What has happened to this plugin? So sad… its just not what it used to be

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are also saddened by the fact that you can no longer show a group feed, nor can you use an APP ID to show a facebook page, since April 4th 2018. We did however document all this and have been following the changes facebook is making do to the whole cambridge analytics scandal that caused all these problems in the first place. We have even gone so far as to make the very first thing in the header of our website be a link describing the issue at hand and also up to date comments with changes. https://www.slickremix.com/facebook-api-changes-on-april-4th-2018/

Although we completely understand your frustration with the facebook group feed not working, to be fair this is completely out of our control and we have documented this and have actually pulled the group feed option from our plugin in version 2.4.0 because of the recent changes. https://wordpress.org/plugins/feed-them-social/#developers

    VERSION 2.4.0 TUESDAY, APRIL 10TH, 2018
REMOVE: Facebook Group Feed and Specific Events Posts: These feed types have been disabled by Facebook at this time. We’ll post changes as we receive them from Facebook. Read More.”

All in all we did server a great service for the time you did use the plugin so maybe you would consider changing your rating.

fyi: Just this past week facebook opened up the events api so it could possibly be a matter of time before the group option is allowed again.

Hope you have a great weekend either way!

I DO understand that this is totally a Facebook issue… I really do. But when you go to download the plugin from wordpress… the description does not reflect the issues. I actually thought when I installed this again yesterday that because the plugin page stated Facebook group feeds were supported, that somehow this plugin got around it. I’m going to wait patiently for Facebook to do their thing, but in the mean time I highly suggest you guys at least update the plugin description on wordpress to reflect which Facebook elements are not functioning due to Facebook. I’d also take down the old instructions on how to obtain the App ID/ API as well since not only can you not currently do that, but the process highlighted in your instructions are old.

I wish you a happy Memorial Day weekend as well!

P.S. I would consider a change in my one star review if you guys update your plugin page on wordpress and the App ID instruction page as well.

    Hey @jstuts5797,
Thanks for understanding. We didn’t do all of the work to remove from the description and text about the group endpoint because Facebook is supposed to be giving us back the ability to retrieve from groups as they just did with a few days ago events endpoint. We began removing the information about groups anyways as there are always people who aren’t being very patient. Also, our documentation only went out of date a few weeks ago with the release of their new documentation. These things take time to update and we usually wait a little bit to update it because they are changing things almost daily with the new release and the screenshots and text may go out of date quickly until the storm settles.

Good luck on your plugin search. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Justin Labadie

Alright the latest version 2.4.2 should have all traces of groups removed and our docs for this have been updated as well. Let us know if we missed anything if you continue to use our plugin for other feeds.
