    Clients started calling that their copyright had weird characters before it and no date. It doesn’t work and now I have to redo everyone’s copyright on all pages. Too bad. 🙁 No updates in 2 years finally breaks it.

    Just installed WordPress to test this, and mine displays perfectly. Current WordPress version, current plugin version and current default theme.

    I tried [c] [cy] and [y].

    I’m not official support, but my guess is that someone changed encoding somewhere on your site. In my experience, I got caught on restoring from a backup of my WordPress database, setting the Collation wrong. But there are lots of possibilities.
