• I had an original PNG image size of 799×999 at about 68KB. After running this plugin, it generated a “large” thumbnail of 479×600 coming in at a whopping 302KB!

In order to verify that this wasn’t just an anomaly, I did approximately 70 more PNGs and every one of them was anywhere from 3x to 4x larger for the “smaller” resized image.

Seems kind of pointless to create thumbnails that are dimensionally smaller, but exponentially larger in size.

    Actually works against download speeds.

    Bummer. That is pretty lame.

However my plugin just calls the core WordPress code that runs when you initially upload an image to your site so that any missing thumbnail sizes are forcibly generated.

So the actual issue either resides in WordPress itself or possibly your server in the image manipulation code that’s being used.
