Is there a help desk or do you just have to rely on the kindness of others when you site blows up.

These forums are the only place to get help with self-hosted WP sites. Everyone here volunteers their time, so sometimes it takes a while for posts to get answered. If you need help, I’d suggest posting a NEW thread — it looks like you’ve posted a couple of times in old threads, but when you post in old threads (especially ones marked resolved), forum volunteers can’t easily see that it’s a new issue for a different person. Threads that have no replies are answered first — so a new thread will increase the chances and timeliness of getting help.

for free support – on top of the ‘official’ WordPress support forum aka ‘These forums are the only place to get help with self-hosted WP sites.’ – there is for instance http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/ which deals with more coding related questions; definitively read their http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/faq before posting questions.

and if you are looking for paid help, you could post a job at http://jobs.wordpress.net/
