 * Does WordPress HAVE TO remain in a folder named WORDPRESS, or can it reside in
   a different folder?

 * You can place it in folder of any name or actually in the root with no name at
   all.
 * Just do not change the names of the subfolders.

 * I don’t keep it there at all. The folder on the server for my site contains the
   WP files right there. Only folders are wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes.
    Wordpress
   will ignore anything there that it doesn’t need.
