Support » Fixing WordPress » Does WordPress has a built in redirection enginge?

  • Hello,

Today I discovered that WordPress redirects pages without a redirect rule. Say that I have page “mypage/slug1”. If I enter “mypage/whatever/slug1”, it gets redirected to “mypage/slug1”.

This behaviour is very good since with my former CMS the url was “mypage/whatever/slug1”. Everyone who has bookmarked these old url:s come right without I have to anything.

I still wonder if it is good SEO practice to manually redirect “/whatever/slug1” to “/slug1”?

    Fred

When executed correctly, you can change, remove, or even combine URLs and not only prevent a drop in rankings but actually gain traffic from organic search. If you just show “Not Found” pages, your ranking will get hurt.
