Support » Plugin: Smush Image Compression and Optimization » Does what it should, but the plugin itself is slow

The plugin does a wonderful job resizing and compressing the images. It runs quickly through them. The problem comes to when it is running in the background when there are no images to work on. Just having the plugin activated slows down my site a 2 seconds. I only activate the plugin to compress images and then I deactivate it again.

    Hey @bobtheninjas,

Thank you for your comment and stars. I am happy to hear that you liked our plugin. The slowness issue is totally unexpected, but if you are willing to help us to solve this we can help you with basic troubleshooting steps.

If you have a backup of your site or staging site, can you try to deactivate all plugins except Smush and try again? If this makes your site faster, can you activate plugins one by one until replicate the slowness again? So you can find is any plugin conflicting Smush and cause this slow.

If you found any plugin conflicting please let us know, if not can you create a thread on the support forum for further support?

    Cheers,
    Oguz

Oguz it seems that the plug in was not working well with Wordfence. I can use one or the other but not both at the same time.

    Hi @bobtheninjas,

We’ve had some reports about security plugins blocking access to REST API, that caused some issues in Smush. That was fixed in the latest update. So there should not be any issues at the moment.

    Best regards,
    Anton
