Does upgrading WP cause loss of current customization

  • I’ve added quite a bit to my WP theme. Some changes to html along the way, and several widgets added.

Does upgrading to the new WP strip out those changes?

Any thoughts on how to keep track of save changes even in the event of switching themes?

  • Depends on what version you’ve upgraded to!? If it’s to 2.0.4, then the Default theme has been “fixed”. And would need an upgrading itself..

If it’s from 2.0.4 to 2.0.5, no. In general.. upgrading WordPress versions won’t have anything to do with themes, being that you’re not supposed to mess with the wp-content folder at all!

Except however… like I said above.. the default 1.5 theme was fixed for 2.0.4, and would need upgraded too..

Thanks Spencer. I’d be upgrading from 2.0.4 to 2.0.5. I haven’t messed with the wp-content folder, but I have changed some code in the CSS, and have added plugins. I use the Misty Look Theme, to which I’ve done a lot of customization. I wouldn’t want to lose that.

Oh ok, you should be fine then, no need to worry about losing anything.. 😉
