Support » Plugin: Ultimate Maintenance Mode » Does this work when updating plugins, or just when turned on?

    Hi,
I’m trying to find a replacement for the default maintenance message that WordPress uses when plugins are updated and the site is momentarily taken offline.

I understand that I can manually turn Ultimate Maintenance Mode on and off, but does it take over automatically when plugins are being updated and the site temporarily goes into maintenance mode?

I’ve done some testing and it doesn’t seem to work.

    Thanks!

You have to create a custom file called wp-maintenance.php and place it in your wp-content folder to override the built in Wp maintenance page.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thanks

Ah, so this plugin doesn’t do this?

Is there a way to copy the page that this plugin creates and use it as wp-maintenance.php?

    Thanks!

No plugin will do it because when WordPress is in it’s own maintenance mode nothing runs. It’s updating so you can’t use any part of WordPress.

Not right now, but I have a a tool being released next that will let you generate a pure html you can use. Sign up here to be notified. http://www.comingsoonpage.com

Ok, makes sense. I’ll look for your latest tool.

Thanks for the super quick response!
