Does this URL access all feeds? (3 posts)

I'm using Permalinks and it seems like the codex is saying that a feed link with this URL,

    http://example.com/feed/

will effectively work to access all the following feeds?

    http://example.com/feed/rss/
    http://example.com/feed/rss2/
    http://example.com/feed/rdf/
    http://example.com/feed/atom/

    Is that correct?

Does that mean that if I have that one generic feed url then anyone can click to subscribe no matter what kind of feed their feed reader requires?

    Thanks.

  2. No, the feed URL accesses only the default feed, which is the RSS2 one. However, all the feeds contain the same content, so it really doesn't matter which they use.

ATOM seems to be the new prevailing feed standard in the future though. It got standardized and is official and such. It's also more mature and has publishing standards associated with it too.

And pretty much all feedreaders understand both RSS2 and ATOM, which are the only ones really used anymore. The RSS1 and RDF feeds are sorta leftovers, nobody really uses them.

Thank you very much! That is a very helpful explanation. I really appreciate it.
