As far as I know the featured image metadata is stored in the post meta which is exported with the post.

I am also thinking the same but I just tried in a multisite blog and there is no media/attachment came if I export by category. I still get if I select “All”, my export file is too large if I select “All” and does not import everything in one go. That is why thinking of importing by category.

Can you please help me on this?

Have you tried a one month date range?

I just tried with date range, no media or attachment came. There is something wrong I guess. If I select “All” and download then file size came about 5MB but if I just select “Post” without selecting any date range/category/author…I got only 2MB. Basically these options are from your plugin and export file is not having any media information, please look into..

Doesn’t the export built into WP allow you to select date ranges for posts?

What I see is Tools > Export > Posts then I have options to select as Categories, Authors, Date range and Status. Also I can export using these options, however when I import using wordpress importer…I noticed that media/attachment are missing. Then I compare the xml file exported using “Tools > Export > All content” with the one exported using one of above option, I can find some differences. This may be the reason media is not getting imported if I import using your plugin exported file. I can provide both the exported file so that you can analyze what is missed.

Hoping to get a break through..

I wrote the advanced export close to 5 years ago ( & it was added to WP core during the 3.0 dev cycle). I was 99% sure that attachments were included however I might be mistaken.

If you are not getting the attachments then you’ll have to find some way to break up the content into smaller exports with the core exporter.

I’m recovering from a long term health issue and won’t be updating the plugin any time soon.
