 * Hi,
 * I am using WordPress 3.7 and do not wish to ‘upgrade’ to a newer version. Given
   that this plug-in presumably doesn’t do much in WordPress itself, does it really
   require 4.0, or is that just the oldest version you’ve tested?

 * Hello,
 * The plugin will work in WordPress 3.7, but with some style issues (checkboxes
   will not be aligned properly in data grid and etc.). If it is suitable for you,
   change value of $min_wp_version variable in ari-adminer.php file to ‘3.7’ value.

 * That’s what I suspected – I can live with that. Thanks for the quick response.

 * We have good news. “ARI Adminer” v. 1.0.5 is compatible with WordPress 3.4+

 * I just tried installing it but unfortunately I still cannot use it, as I’m running
   PHP 5.3 (I depend on a lot of older plug-ins that break under 5.4 and later).

 * Sorry, but PHP 5.4 is minimal version which is required for the plugin.

 * WordPress 3.7 was released back in 2013, there are a number of solid reasons
   why you should always keep WP core updated. With relation to the PHP version,
   running at least 5.6 if not PHP7 will improve PHP performance for the site as
   well.

 * Yeah, and there’s an even greater number of reasons (compatibility with older
   plug-ins and themes I depend on, keeping my web site stable and online, not having
   to spend endless hours testing for incompatibilities) not to. The number one
   reason to upgrade used to be security, but 3.7 and later get all the WordPress
   security updates anyway. And a lot of the time, new versions introduce greater
   security vulnerabilities than older versions anyway (such as the recent REST
   vulnerability). PHP 5.3 combined with an APC cache (which I use) is known to
   be the fastest PHP implementation too (the speed improvements in more recent
   versions are due to their own caching mechanisms). Plus I can’t think of a single
   genuinely useful new feature WordPress has introduced since the automatic updates
   feature in 3.7, and I hate the changes to the interface in 3.8 and later (I still
   use iOS6 and Mac OS X 10.6 for the same reasons).
