I’m looking for a plugin or software that I can use to clone a “skeleton” of a site so that I can not have to set up my plugins all the time. I want it to transfer all the plugins, activate them and have them already set up and configured the way I like. Will this plugin do that?

    Thanks a lot
    Eddie

  • Hi Eddie,

Yes it will transfer settings. If you run into a plugin or theme that has issues, please feel free to report the issue with a help ticket…

    Cheers~

Just to reiterate, if I want to move all of my installed plugins that I use on one site to another site I am developing, I could use duplicator?

Yes the plugin will copy over all files and the database which is where the vast majority of all the settings for plugins are stored. It will then look for the old URL and file server paths you used on the old site and ask for a new URL/PATHS when you go to redeploy the site.

When the redeploy happens it will search through every record in the database and replace the old URL with the new URL and file server paths of the new location. The plugin will re-serialize all strings that were serialized with PHP and look for base64 encoded strings as well. The process is not always 100% because some theme authors store settings in XML files, which is impossible to catch… The report at the end of step 3 in the installer will try and give you a heads up of potential issues the replacement engine couldn’t fix…

    Hope that helps!
