• I’ve been getting the “Something went wrong” error for months and I’m about ready to just delete the plugin. My support pre-check looks good. I use GoDaddy Managed WordPress Hosting. What’s the solution?

I know that it works with GoDaddy regular Web Hosting (shared hosting). I have not tested with their Managed WordPress hosting, sorry. Although your system info above says that the “exec() Function” is okay, I suspect that GoDaddy may do something to prevent it in the Managed WordPress hosting, but I do not know for sure. Maybe, ask them if they allow the PHP exec function to work in their Managed plan.

I still get the “Something Went Wrong” error.

I’ve talked with GoDaddy multiple times, each time getting a different answer. One told me to create a php.ini file which did precisely nothing. Another one finally confirmed that they do not allow the PHP exec function to work in Managed WordPress or any of their shared hosting platforms. All they could offer was a dedicated server plan which was going to be another $20/month on top of the $50 I already pay. No thanks!

How can it work with the GoDaddy regular web hosting if the regular web hosting doesn’t allow the PHP exec function?

I really really really want this plugin to work but I’ve been on the verge of giving it up entirely. I don’t really want to switch hosting either because it’s a hassle getting everything switched over, but is there a better cheaper alternative hosting which will be guaranteed to work with this plugin?

I know that your question is a few months old now, but I was struggling with this exact issue and after speaking with GoDaddy support I was told that UpdraftPlus is not compatible with GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting plan. When I asked why they told me “We cannot tell you the exact reason why it’s not compatible “. A total non-answer, but now I know.

They do their own backups, but I like to have a plan B. I typically have a client host their site with me, but this one already had GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress plan so we went with that. This is why I never recommend GoDaddy.
