[Resolved] Does this plugin avoid 301 redirects?

  • I am new to WordPress (I don’t even have a site yet).
I plan to transfer an existing static site to WordPress. Your plugin seems to provide a solution for preserving my URL structure from old to new site.

My question is, how does this plugin work? Or more to my concern, is a 301 redirect involved?

When http://www.example.com/home.htm is requested by a browser, does this plugin make a change in the .htaccess file where a 301 redirect is performed or are the changes internal to WordPress and WordPress actually recognizes the page home.htm as existing?

    Thanks.

  • I installed this plugin, activated it and created a sample page.
    It worked as advertised.
I then looked in the .htaccess files of the website. (in both the root and wp subdirectory)
I saw no mention of any 301 redirects in either.

For adding an extension to a Page, some people in the WordPress forms suggested a solution where a line in your .htaccess file (using wildcard notation) could be created to generically do a 301 for all pages. But since 301’s leak at least a little bit of link juice, this plugin seems the better solution.

I’m new at this, so if someone has a different opinion I would like to hear it.
