 * I’m looking for the typical content slider that integrates with wordpress (non
   flash version). There are plenty out there however I’m having a hard time trying
   to find the one that meets my needs.
 * For all intents and purposes I’d like to define all of my categories…. everything
   but “news” will be featured content which would cover 5 different categories
   but the 6th category would be news. News would be the only category I don’t want
   to be displayed in the content slider.
 * So far all of the ones I have found is all categories or none, I’m still very
   new to wordpress so any help would be greatly appreciated.
 * Thanks,
    Steve

 * If you don’t mind _manually_ indicating / marking a post (or page) for inclusion
   in the content highlighter / slider, you might want to give [Smooth Slider](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smooth-slider)
   a spin.
 * Essentially, at the time of creating / editing the post, you define the slider’s
   illustration (if at all you use a slider image) in a custom field, create (if
   you want a separate slider text) the text that appears in the slider (else, use
   the default excerpt or the first X words/characters), then mark the post for
   inclusion (it’s just ticking a checkbox) and _voilà_ – you’re done.
 * The manual method is a bit less intuitive if you have a bunch of authors if you
   want their work to automatically appear, but in a single author environment it’s
   very simple, effective and visually neat. Uses Javascript, not Flash.

 * Actually manually selecting which posts would end up in the slider would be ideal
   to be honest. I will definitely look into smooth slider, I probably spent the
   first 2 hours of my morning searching for a decent WP solution to this and so
   far you gave the best one yet.
 * Thanks!
