  • When I create a new post but leave it in draft state (i.e., not yet published), does WordPress create a permalink for it? If yes, where can I find the permalink? If no, is there a way to force creation of a permalink prior to publishing, and to know what it is?

(My work-around idea, but not sure it will work: I use pretty permalinks, format=/%post_id%/%postname%. I’ve considered creating a new post, publishing it to establish the permalink, then deleting it for the time being, and re-creating the exact same post later. Will the new post have the same permalink, or will the post data base use a new post_id?) Thanks!

  • No, no permalink for drafts.

However, while viewing a draft click that “View Posts” link up by the title — that’ll give you the url.
