Does not work with Page Excerpts

Used with Agency 2.0 trying to run 3 Pages (not posts) through a slider.

Attempted to setup Excerpts using Page Excerpt plugin as Excerpts are not native to Pages in WordPress.

This plugin cannot pull the excerpts from a Page however.

I’d suggest it is a flaw creating this plugin for Genesis themes to run Pages if you can’t customize the message to go in the slider such as through an Excerpt, hence I’m listing this as broken.

It does work with content limit, but that severely limits the functionality and usefulness of the plugin as compared to posts. Consider that this plugin is used in the Example with the Agency theme on the demo page as well. I’d posit that an ‘agency’ is less likely to run blog posts through a slider than more static content such as that in a page.

I’d normally probably take this up in the StudioPress forums, however those are not user friendly post redesign, and this is more of a plugin issue than a theme issue, especially as the child theme is sold using this plugin in action to show off ‘what is possible’. In this I think it is misleading, and I think this could be corrected to help existing and future clients of StudioPress.

Pages don’t have excerpts by default.

I’d be interested in the ability to run pages and page excerpts through the slider. – My $.02.

The original poster was using a plugin to add excerpts to his/her pages. I was just telling the OP that the slider would not support those excerpts.

Without the plugin when you edit a Page in WP, there is no excerpt box because WP pages do not support excerpts. That has nothing to do with either the slider, Genesis or any of the child themes.

It relates to Genesis and StudioPress as they are selling child themes that demo a capability that relies upon this plugin combined with excerpt capabilities that do not exist in WordPress and that do not work when you add that capability through a plugin.

That said, it’s more of an issue of false or misleading advertising by StudioPress and less of a functionality issue with the plugin. Upgrading the plugin to accommodate this capability would also solve the false advertising issue, but that is neither here nor there in terms of bug reporting.

As such I’ll mark the thread resolved and let other’s complain directly to StudioPress about the discrepancy with their demos using this plugin.

We are not using that plugin on any of our demo sites. Above, I did not say WP would not generate excepts for pages, just that there was no meta box for adding a custom excerpt.

I am confused…

Does this mean that you can or cannot create excerpts for PAGES (not posts)in Genesis 2?

If so, what plugin will allow an exerpt box in the admin area?

And once those excerpts are created, will plugins that rely on PAGE excerpts recognize them?
