• Hello,

WP 5.7.2 + Plugin Better Notifications for WP 1.8.6 stopped sending mails. We have tried default (php: mail) and SMTP-Setup, does not help. BNFW > “Send test mail” do not deliver any mails nor log them (using Post SMTP + Log). Using other tools such as Post SMTP > Send test mail DO (!) get sent and logged.

    What to do ?

    Hi @mcian,
    Thanks for your message.

I’ve been testing for most of this week and haven’t encountered any issues or had any other reports of this.
Usually when this happens, it’s due to another plugin, a change in your configuration of BNFW, or something to do with hosting.

My advice would be to make your way through this document to see if you can narrow down the issue.

Yes, fully tested all steps. One major question: i expect the button “send test mail” within BNFW > Notifications > Edit any notification to always send a mail to the email address assigned to the user currently logged in. If that is true then BNFW is *not* sending any email, where other plugins do.

    Hi @mcian,
Yes, that button works, in my experience, 100% of the time.
To be, it sounds like something is preventing that email from being sent out outside of BNFW.
Even if you don’t have any other plugins installed, that should send something to I suspect it’s either a setting on the notification, the SMTP settings, or something on your server that’s flagging it before it’s being sent out.

Can you post a link to a screenshot showing the whole notification?

@voltronik No, its the notification thats got broken. I’ve created a new from scratch; and that works (test as well as regular triggered sending). The two notifications already in use for years stopped working on 9th juni; with no apparent reason …

    Hi @mcian,
So you’ve created a new version of the notification and that’s now working but your old one, that was working for years, just stopped working – is that correct?

I’m afraid, yes. They both look identical in backend, but one works where the other seams dead.

    Hi @mcian,
That is odd and not something I’ve seen in testing or had reported before.
My guess at this stage would be that something has changed the notification entry in the database, possibly another plugin that has appended data or removed data, and this has caused the post (notification) entry to become invalid in some way and fails silently when it should be sent out.

I’d be interested to see if there is a difference between the old entry in the database vs the new one in both the wp_posts and wp_postmeta tables, but appreciate this may be too much to ask you to send me. Please feel free to should you wish though.

Regardless, I’m pleased that you managed to find the issue and get the BNFW notification working again so that you can continue to use it.
