  • In the case of new uploads the quality setting will somewhat affect the other smaller size images because the original is resized before those smaller versions are created.

In the case of bulk image resize – only the master file is touched, so the smaller sizes are not affected.

I realize it affects them, but they’re still created at WP’s default of 90, right? So if I set the setting to 70, the full-size image is created with a quality of 70, but then the various other sizes are created by re-sizing that image and saving it using a quality of 90, right?

I’m using a separate plugin to lower WP’s default of 90 to 70, since 90 is really overkill and leads to slower load times than necessary. I just want to make sure that’s not redundant to Imsanity, which is sounds like it is not.

The Imsanity only affects the “master” image which normally is un-touched by WordPress. It sounds like your plugin only affects the reduced size images.

I would probably set Imsanity to 70 and keep your other plugin at 70 as well. That will keep your file sizes consistent and I don’t think you’ll see much difference in quality. I would upload a test and see if the results look acceptable to you. I’m pretty sure it will look perfectly fine, 90 is higher quality than necessary for most purposes.

    Okay, thank you.
