  • The business owner asked me if deleting WordPress media library files in our production environment and then cloning production to staging would remove the files in staging too. I performed the task above and when I cloned prod to staging I still saw the deleted media library items in staging that were deleted in prod. Does this mean we have to remove files manually in staging too? Is this true of pages/posts?

It would depend on how staging and prod are connected. Generally, the idea is that they should be separate so changes on one don’t break the other.

They are separate. So if we edit/change a file in one place and clone it to another, it should change there too, but deleted files don’t end up deleted after being cloned. Do I have that correct?

Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

I don’t know how you’re hosting this. It would be best if you contacted your host to find how they manage cloing, staging, and prod. It’s not a WordPress issue.

They are on the same server but have their own folders and the files are in separate upload folders for each environment.

If they are separate, they are separate.
