    Hi Igor,

This plugin doesn’t change the default permalink structure, it only adds to it for the sitemaps, and only listens to it to generate canonical/og URL’s.
This is because WordPress itself has options to alter these.

I wouldn’t recommend removing the category base, although it might seem ugly, or weird, it’s basically preventing post/page/category structure conflicts. It also hints visitors (without default Apple settings) where they are.

Within site.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php you can change the category base. Some recommendations will tell you to add a dot in the Category base settings; I looked deep into the WordPress core code and I already saw some problems with that when using IIS7, so it’s not recommended to do.

Feel free to change the category base to your liking, more options are added there when using WooCommerce.
Otherwise, I can’t help you out other than testing alternative plugins, this search query will give you a few plugins that do so.

I’m unsure of the side-effects, I’m going to test it out ASAP.

I hope this clears things up! Thanks and have a wonderful day! 🙂

    Hi Sybre,

Thank you very much for an explanation.

    I will test some plugins.

Yoast have this feature, may be you add one in the future.

    Thanks for your time!

    Regards,
    Igor

    Hi Igor,

Anytime! Let me know if you find any plugin incompatibilities and I’ll be sure to address them :).

Please see this professional opinion through a video by Matt Cutts for more information regarding link structure and its SEO effects.

Many years ago, it certainly mattered. As told through the video, this is no longer the case.
So, when Google changes his mind, or when it really shows that Bing and Yahoo look at the link structure, I’ll be sure to consider it as it’s then part of SEO.

I hope this clears things up 🙂

    Enjoy your day! 😀
