 * Is it possible to use `do_shortcode()` in my template files to include a chart
   or is there another way of including a chart directly?

 * Do you mean using do_shortcode() to display a chart as part of a WordPress theme?
 * Not sure if that can be accomplished currently, the charts are contained and 
   rendered inside the post where they are defined.
 * Can you elaborate it more? Maybe that could be implemented as well 🙂

 * Sorry for the late reply, yes i do mean using do_shortcode()
 * If the charts were all stored in a CPT then they would be easy to access from
   anywhere in the site, rather than having them stored in a posts metadata 🙂
 * The standard shortcode could be used in widgets, pages, posts etc and a function
   could be used to output them in page template for developers.
