• Hello!

All of a sudden one day a few months ago we started seeing customers get an error when they press the submit button in our checkout after entering all their credit card details.

the customer sees an error message in our checkout saying something like:

‘there was a problem connecting to the payment gateway’

on our side, the PayPal plugin sends us an error email like this:

PayPal Payments Pro 2.0 (PayFlow) Error Notification
    do_payment call failed.

    Error Code: 0
Detailed Error Message: Could not resolve host: payflowpro.paypal.com

This is totally unpredictable, it may happen once or 20 times a day and customers retry at a later time and it will work.

We have deactivated any caching plugins and put cloudflare back to default settings. Updated our theme, woocommerce, wordpress, in fact pretty much all plugins, but over the past 4 months no luck.

I host my own server on Digital Ocean, use server pilot to manage it, and use cloudflare as a proxy

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Peter

Based on the error it sounds like a DNS issue. What DNS servers are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I am pointing them at the two cloudflare nameservers as they instruct. Last night I paused cloudflare but the issue is still occuring. I am going to look at moving the nameservers back to point directly at the nameservers of Digital Ocean so to completely remove cloudflare to rule this out entirely. its strange as this setup has been in place for a few years and nothing changed (thats what they all say!) when this issue started happening.

@pommypete, Well its hard to say how its not resolving the DNS, did you talk to your domain / hosting support about that, there is clearly some configurations which you should correct to get that working.
As such there nothing in our side that can cause this issue.

Let me know if you still have any other questions or concerns.
    Thanks!
