Do Scheduled Posts Ping When You First Click “Publish? …Or do they wait until the scheduled date to ping the search engines? It would seem to me that the latter would be the ideal, however someone told me it was the other way around.

I think that scheduled posts are ‘pinged’ when someone comes to your site at any point AFTER the post has been … posted.

If a Post is assigned a publish date in the future, then the [Publish Post] button changes to a [Schedule Post] button.

It doesn’t actually *publish* until the cron job fires at the appropriate future time.

As for when it pings: I would assume it would be sometime at or after its status is actually set to “published”.
