• If you really have time and money to burn then paid membership pro is the wordpress membership plugin for you! But even with an infinite amount of those, it is still not very good.

Do not believe all their hype about this being the free-ist plugin on the whole planet, that’s a load of tripe! Why do you think it is called “Paid” membership pro? Coincidence? All they want is your money. I spent all day following a video to install this only to be crushed at the final hurdle by a demand to upgrade to their $300 plugin! What a joke! And this is for basic functionality. When I contacted support it took them A WEEK to reply. You see, you have to PAY for their support to get any resemblance of normal service. I am still furious that I trusted everything they said about “open source” – I am eating those words now! Open source my black hole!

You don’t actually realise how bad the functionality of this plugin is until you try the #1 market leader memberpress which is a paid plugin, $150, but you can search online for a discount code and get 10-20% off that. The difference is like night and day, it is fully integrated so, for example, if you want to offer a trial period for a subscription you don’t need ANOTHER PAID ADDON like with – supposedly free as the wind – “paid membership pro”!

I suppose you could argue that if you do actually spend $300 for the bundle of addons then the functionality is ok, but this plugin is still not intuitive to use, and maddening to work out with no documentation or support!!!

What are you going to do if your website actually takes off and you have 100 members and it all collapses? Panic about how you are going to be able to afford $300 to buy the support license before your angry 100 members come running after you? Or wish you had spent half of that on memberpress?

I don’t work for memberpress, but it annoys me when a company like “paid membership pro” purports to be something they are diametrically opposed to being. They truly are an insult to the term “open source” and for all their talk of “Github” try and get any help out of them before the end of the month? Good luck!

When a plugin has 50 x “1 star” reviews, and less than 500 reviews overall, do the maths? Avoid this plugin like hell. You have been warned.

Maxwell, this review is so well written. Maybe you weren’t paid to post this, but you probably should have been.

MemberPress is a great plugin, and I encourage people to check them out to see if it is a good fit for their sites. Hurry up. Their sale is ending in 3 hours and 47 minutes.

All of our code *is* open source and 100% free. You can find our plugins here on WordPress.org, for free, or on GitHub, for free.

Our documentation is available for free on our website https://www.paidmembershipspro.com. Most of it requires a free sign up to access.

There are over 90,000 sites running PMPro, and only 4000 of them were our paying customers last year. I’m proud of the fact that we enable so many membership sites.

Some of the advanced tutorials and code gists require our Plus membership, which is about $300 right now. Plus membership also gives you access to our paid support system and automatic updates for the add ons we host on our own servers. That’s it. We sometimes advertise our paid products at the end of our videos. If you have a membership site, I encourage you to every so often ask for money from your potential customers.

I am sorry that it took so long to get back to your contact form submission (I’m assuming that’s how you contacted us). A week is too long. We usually get back sooner depending on the nature of the question and what kind of load we are under.

I’m glad that MemberPress is working out for you. Good luck with the site.

    Regards,

    Jason Coleman
