    I deleted the plugin directory and now my site is back online!

    Message like this:

    Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

    means only that, the upgrade is in progress, you just check before is ended.

    If something is broken, then deleting “wp-content/plugins” directory get no any effects.

    How long should it take to upgrade?

    I waited for minutes, not hours.

    Deleting the directory did resolve the issue. However, I’m sure it is not the best solution.
