• I thought I’d try this again:-)

I am developing my blog on a local host. Because my blog was on wp.com, I lost all the links when I downloaded the xml file and uploaded it to wp.org on my local host.

When I move my blog to dreamhost, does everything move with it from the local host? Things like changes to my theme, plugins, new pages, new categories, but most importantly, links.

I have hundreds of broken links that need to be fixed and I don’t want to do that on the local host only to have to do it again after I move my blog to dreamhost. I’d like to move my blog in as close to finished state as possible.

If anyone could help me that would be great. I have looked everywhere for this answer before posting here.

  • from my experience, everything transfers fine except image links. Those get hard-coded, so I usually do a search and replace on the .sql file before importing it to live site

    Thanks samboll!

So just to clarify – I don’t fix the links, but just before I’m ready to import, I replace all the localhost links with the link for my website.

    Thanks for your help.
