Support » Installing WordPress » Do I need to upgrade?

  • Hello,
I created a blog a couple of years ago. I didn’t download nor install anything; just simply created the blog as instructed on the screen. Now, I want to be sure I’m on the latest version. But I can’t find the version number anywhere on the dashboard — I looked hard. I’m using the theme:

Theme The Journalist v1.9 with 7 Widgets

Is my blog running on the WP server, and is the application being updated automatically? I don’t see any automatic update button anywhere.

    Confused.

…You’re good. Don’t worry about it at all. The WordPress.COM guys have all your upgrades covered

Well, duh, I should have known the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks much!

Your are in pretty good hands. You have a free blog that is being hosted by wordpress.com, so that means you are indeed hosted on WordPress servers.

Here is the link for support at wordpress.com if you should need it. This forum is actually for wordpress.org users who choose to have their site hosted on servers other than the ones where you are hosted.

Take a look at this page, and it will tell you the differences between the two: WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org Look under this heading for information about backups and upgrade to your site:

    WordPress.com Benefits

  • Itโ€™s free and much easier to setup
  • Everything is taken care of: setup, upgrades, spam, backups, security, etc
  • Your blog is on hundreds of servers, so itโ€™s highly unlikely it will go down due to traffic
  • Your posts are backed up automatically
  • Chances are, you are already up to date and in really good shape!

True.. wordpress.com is really great and you don’t have much to care about as they do almost all the stuffs.
