Do I need to have domain available to start WP blog?

  • Hello,

I currently have a blog on WP.com that’s mapped to my domain. I want to move it to wp.org, but want change the theme a bit, so I don’t want to switch the blog right over to .org.

Do I need to have the domain free to start this or can I keep my wp.com blog up right until I’m ready to switch over? Is there a way to work with my .org theme without having the domain empty?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Set-up a local install and work on your theme…then when you switch, just upload it to your site. See the following video for setting up a localhost install using XAMPP.
