Do I need an SSL to use WordPress?

    I am currently webhosting shopping for a wordpress blog I’m planning to launch this month. The question I have is do I need to have an SSL? Currently I have an e-commerce website and know I need a SSL for the authorize.net credit card transactions but even the certain areas of the admin screen need it. Is the same true for WordPress? I Just want to find out so I can find out what type of web hosting package I need.
