• Hi
Firstly, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who answers questions on this forum. I’m new to wordpress and web stuff in general, so it has been really helpful being able to look through this forum to find answers to my questions.
I am currently setting up a blog and am up to the stage of having installed wordpress on my domain at bluehost. To do that, I went into the FTP Manager and used the Drag and Drop function they have.
But a lot of the documentation I have seen about installing wordpress (codex etc) suggests getting an FTP client like Filezilla to upload files.
What’s the difference? Is there a reason why I would get Filezilla or another FTP client over using the drag and drop features of bluehost?
I guess I’ll be uploading a lot more stuff in the future (photos etc)… so I figured I should work out the answer now.
    Thanks,
    Nat

  • You can use the drag-and-drop method for uploading the files now.

Just ensure that the correct chmod permissions are set on the files.

In the future, you can use the inbuilt upload manager in WordPress to upload the photos etc.

Filezilla is both free and excellent which is why the recommendations.

I’m not familiar with Bluehost, but an ftp program gives you complete control over the uploading and downloading of files, and it is also not dependent on you being able to login to the BH control panel. If you have Filezilla as well, you’ll have choices too 🙂
