# do I need a Linux server??

 * Hey!
    I’ve got a windows hotel, and I cannot install wordpress on it… I’m told
   its because I need a linux server… Is that true? Its not on the list of requirements,
   but I don’t know what else the problem is… I just get a 404 error when I go to
   the install, and the URL is right (I’ve tried on another domain as well). Can
   anyone help me with an answer?

 * WordPress can work on Windows. I have several versions of WordPress working on
   my local Window XP machine. You just need PHP.
 * It works well on Apache web server. There may be issues with IIS though. What
   web server do you use?
 * 404 means “File not found”. So it’s not WordPress error. It’s either a typo in
   the URL, or misconfigured web server.

 * Hi Detnice,
    no WordPress need not really a Linux Server. See the requirements
   for running, and check your’e server.
 * Tip
    Also if you ar a fan of MS-Windows, setup one time a server with Linux, 
   eg CentOS or so. Sure you have an old PC – try with them. Do not install graphical
   enviroument only server tools. When running go to apachefriends.org get lampp
   and install them.

 * I solved it by changing to a Linux server… It just seemed like the easy solution…

 * If you are on godaddy, for example, you do need Linux.
