Support » Fixing WordPress » Do I have to download WP if I just have a blog?

  • lindseypogue

I’m really confused and starting to get frustrated with WP, but I’ll try to explain this as best i can. I am highly aware of the fact that it’s probably user error, and I’d like to think I have some basic skills, but I am so over this issue and tired of asking my friends to help that I’m on the verge of pulling the plug on my WP blog. I left Blogger because I really liked the templates and professional appearance of WP blogs, initially it seemed super user friendly and all was going well…until I started having to do marketing for my book. That being said, I’m having a very difficult time figuring out why I can’t insert a (javascript) widget from Amazon or one of my book giveaway widgets from goodreads without them either not coming through at all or only partially.

Here’s my link to check out what I’m talking about. See sidebar.

I looked into it and your site says i need to download a javascript enabling module, but why? Seems like a basic need a lot of blog owners would have. Also, Every time I find/read an article or instructions about javascript issues, it asks which version I have and tells me I need to download an upgraded version of WP. Again, Why? I wasn’t aware I needed to download wordpress at all onto my home computer so that I could have a blog, that doesn’t really make sense to me.

I didn’t find anything on the website explaining anything about this, why you need to download WP, the benefits, etc. Again, it’s probably out there…but….maybe I don’t know what exactly I’m looking for? Not sure. If you could direct/help me so that I know if WP is the site for me, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
