I am writing this to you after some careful observation of my own.

The visibility settings of my popup is-
    Display Rule- Everywhere
Event- On Load, Delay 30 seconds
    Popup showing limitation- Ticked
    Popup showing count: 1
    Popup showing expiry: 1
Apply option on each page: Not Ticked

    Popup Order- 0
    Custom event delay: 0

I use two cache Plugins- Autoptimize and WP Fastest Cache.

Every Sunday I clear the entire cache.

My website gets 300 to 500 NEW visitors daily. Average session duration is 2:19 minutes and bounce rate is 68%. 90+% of the visitors come from organic search. (all these are Google Analytics stats)

Since I have set popup to appear just after 30 seconds, I guess my popup should be shown to at least 100-150 people daily out of 300 to 500.
But actually it is very low.

Some day the popup views count (shown when I click “All Popups” in dashboard) just increase by 10 or 20. Some days by 40 or 45.

Is it possible that due to cache plugins the popup recognises every new user as old user and does not show the popup again (as I have set it to be visible only once per user per day.)

Also, every Sunday night I clear the cache.
Then on Monday I get 300+ popup views.
But today it is Wednesday 12:48 AM, and total views are 353. (300+ were on Monday itself.)

    Dear developer,
    Why is this happening?
Are Popups affected by cache plugins?

Why aren’t they visible to every new visitor as per the settings?
    or
Please tell me some changes that I need to make in the Popup settings. (I have already mentioned my popup settings above.)

    Thank You very much.
Waiting hopefully for your response. Thank You.

  • pro-tip; test by disabling Autoptimize on a per-request basis by adding ?ao_noptimize=1 to the URL.

if the problem is not there at that point, some autoptimize (re-)configuration might be needed to fix this. there are troubleshooting tips and info on how to exclude in the AO FAQ.

    hope this helps debugging,
    frank (ao dev)
