Ditching curly quotes (and maybe Texturize) (2 posts)

    Hello all-
I am not a big fan of curly quotes -- they're OK, but WordPress seems to get them wrong often enough that it distracts me. I'd rather stick with straight up-and-down quotes and apostrophes. From searching the forums, I get that Texturize is something in WP that auto-curlies the quotes, and makes some of the other typographical smoothouts that I've noticed (em and en dashes, etc.). I can't seem to find a specific page on Texturize itself though. My questions then are:
    1) Can I turn off just the curly quotes without affecting the rest of Texturize?
    2) If I can't, is there a complete list somewhere of things that Texturize does so that I can decide whether I want to turn it off altogether?
    3) How do I go about turning it off?
    Thanks in advance,

PS -- I tried installing the wptexturize plugin (found at http://www.coffee2code.com/archives/2004/06/27/plugin-wpuntexturize/) and that resulted in my site not loading at all. All I saw was the following error message:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/comics/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wpuntexturize.php on line 35
