Distraction free mode

I’ve seen this asked in other posts, but not answered, as far as I can see. TinyMCE advanced is a great plugin, but the custom TinyMCE controls disappear when you go into distraction free mode.
I guess there used to be a more standard full screen mode in WordPress which was replaced by distraction free mode. In a closed thread, the plugin author said you’d need a ‘small plugin’ to bring back TinyMCE functionality, but I don’t know what this plugin is.
If someone knows of this plugin, or has another hack to bring back this functionality, I’d like to hear it. Thanks.
