Hi rob1n,
Thank you for the reference. That was what I was afraid of, more coding. I wish the plugin is a lot easier to use. I love the look of the Archives page of Rosalilium compared to mine.
Will try to find a better alternative. Thanks again.

Sorry, I completely misread your original post and answered it backwards (and 100% incorrectly).
You could easily do something like that archives page using this plugin. To do so, I would recommend using the get_smarter_archives()
function, then writing your own markup and JavaScript for the fancy parts.
Unfortunately, doing this would require some JavaScript knowledge as well as enough PHP knowledge to traverse the result get_smarter_archives()
returns.

I use get_smarter_archives()
to generate my own custom markup on my archives page (http://robinadr.com/archives).
You can see the code here:
https://github.com/robinadr/hematite/blob/master/insert-archives.php
Tried the code from GitHub and I can’t figure out how to get it to work.
I created a “simple-archive” template page by copying from page.php, entered the code below its content, and the result is the archive is within the “content” portion of the page, but the “tag” and “category” are below the content area at the base of the page.
I’m not sure if I created a template page correctly or not, and not sure if the placement of the code is wrong, or the code is not complete, or ???
Using Twenty-Ten theme, WordPress 3.8.1.
I would like it to look just like you have it on your page at: http://robinadr.com/archives

You should try this plugin instead:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/smart-archives-reloaded/
It does all the PHP and JavaScript for you. The original website you linked uses this plugin.
