Displaying the latest post on the front page

  • Ok I almost know this has been covered, and having tried 12 different variations of the search I couldn’t find the right post.

On the main page (index.php) I want to display only the latest post. Belowit I would have the the most recent posts – the latter I can do using the custom listings plugin. How do I do the first thing?

The link has to be here somewhere….

    Thanks in advance

  • options -> reading: show at most … posts?

Or if you want your theme to ignore setting in admin menu, use custom, advanced loop
    http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop#Advanced_Use

That advanced stuff looks a bit, um, advanced?

The reading: show at most didn’t occur to me, but I guess that would do the job correctly.

    Thanks (again)

I am not sure from reading the problem as described that a plugin is necessary.
But that loop stuff is bad 🙂

I’d get the custom_posts_per_page plugin so you could just set the front page to one post and the rest to whatever. Hey, root.

You’re correct Root, don’t need the plugin – didn’t occur to me about the number of viewable posts in the admin area! That plugin sounds interesting Alan I might give that a look.

What I did want to do was have the latest post displayed in full, only to have the same post in the recent posts listing.

    Thanks as every folks 😉
