Support » Plugins and Hacks » Displaying a hierchy of pages?

  • Hello 🙂

I was wondering if this was possible… well actually, I know it is! I just need some help I guess.

To begin with… I use A LOT of pages. The hierarchy of these pages can be explained by the cheap diagram below.

    PAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE
    PAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE

What I am currently doing is that I dont display any of the subpages, even if you’re on them. I use _exclude or something like that. So the list looks like..

    PAGE
    PAGE

What I want to do is show the current path (kind of like a directory) of the pages that lead to the current page the user is on. So if you open one of the subpages from above you get…

    PAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    — SUBPAGE (WE ARE ON THIS PAGE)
    – SUBPAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    – SUBPAGE
    PAGE

I hope you know what I’m talking about. ANY help on this is GREATLY appreciated. Thank in advance 🙂

    Your friend, Metaleks

  • I’ve not done anything like this but have you reviwed the list pages tag?:

    Template_Tags/wp_list_pages

I have. From my limited knowledge of php, I don’t think I can utilize to create something like this. Any help would be appreciated ^_^

Try searching for “current page item” highlighting, and also maybe for a breadcrumb plugin?

    I’m afraid I don’t understand… 🙁

Also, I would love if this was done without a plugin.

Um. You don’t understand about searching the forum for posts about this?

Big search box at the top…. and as far as not using a plugin, you can’t do breadcrumbs without one, but you can do page heirarchies: Template_Tags/wp_list_pages – as far as it goes.

But I don’t get why not plugins…. that’s the whole point to the way wp works: there’s some base functionality but the rest of it is handled by plugins.
