# Display short summary

 * I have a blog and have some posts but several are very long. How do I shorten
   it with a ‘read more’ option? Also, I’d like to this with and without links taking
   the reader to other pages on the website when necessary. Thanks.

 * You can either [use the More tag](http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_the_Read_More)
   or you can set your php template to display `the_excerpt` instead of `the_content`.
