Support » Plugin: Events Manager » Display ongoing / multiday events in event-list on all days (not only startdate)

  • Hello!

Thank you for the wonderful plugin! We use it to provid users a possbility to submit events on our website. Unfortunately the users are confused by settings of “recurring events”, so we had to switch it off. But it is still possible to set single day or long events (multi-day).

I’m wondering if it is possible to display long events (sometimes also refered to as “multiday” or “ongoing” events) on all days of an event list. At the moment a long event is only displayed on starting date and not the following days. E.g. we have a long event “test title” lasting from 10.11.2019 to 12.11.2019 and on each day from 9am to 5pm. At the moment the event will only show up on 10.11.2019 9am to 5pm. There is no such event on 11. and 12.

I’ve searched the forum and the EM snippets but can not find a solution to this. Or is the only solution to convert this event to a recurring one? E.g. “test title” is recurring each day from 10. to 12.11.2019?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

  • Hi,
    EM user here too.

Funny you should mention “ongoing events”. πŸ˜‰ I have actually created an EM add-on with that name which does exactly what you are looking for πŸ˜‰

Each item in the events list needs to be a separate post/event. My add-on will create one main event (with the booking form etc) and allows to automatically create sub events (children).

    Hello Patrick,

seems like you are more an advanced user πŸ˜‰ You already provided some help on my question about mapstyles (concerning one of your other plugins). Thank you very much for all your advice!

Back to this issue: I already checked your plugin. But in this case I would prefer some simple solution without any plugin. Because we don’t need any booking and our users (which are submitting events) are already kind of confused because of the different event types (single, recurring, etc.) and metaboxes.

Do you think there is a more lightweight solution? It’s “only” about displaying the multiday-events on the following days…

Thank you – especially for all your support and plugins for EM!

    You’re very welcome πŸ™‚

It’s β€œonly” about displaying the multiday-events on the following days…

That sounds easier than it is…. πŸ˜€

Technically each entry in the events list is a separate event. Entries are created by checking the start date. A multi-day event only has 1 start date.

You could also disable recurring events to avoid confusion.

If it helps, I could update the add-on to check if the main event has bookings enabled and then not show the shared booking form in the sub events.

Hey Patrick and thank you for your detailed answer! Sounds really more complicated then I supposed. I will think about your sugesstion and will get back here if we can create some useful scenario.

    Thank you!

I thought is was actually quite easy πŸ˜‰
Create one event. Then within that event, tell EM what the other dates are. Click publish and all done πŸ˜€
