You’ll just have to change the code slightly, since you don’t want the last name to be included.

I’m looking for solution that will change the “Display name publicly as” by default. Not after the login.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
That’s what they are doing there.
Their idea was to use the login event as a trigger for making this change. If someone changes their setting, it will be reset the next time they log on to the system…
Of course you could change this once for all existing users, more or less by issuing a certain SQL command (AFTER making backup, I think…).
Fixing this for new subscribers could be done with some hook/action that is called during registration.
Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time right now to dig deeper into that hilarious SQL-command to change this for all existing users. Perhaps someone else will chime in, or I can get back to it in a few days…
